That’s me on my first trip to Europe— young, fresh-faced, and in high school. I’m in the blue and red velvet costume on the left. Dustin and I will be traveling there again this month to attend a wedding. Since that first trip, I’ve lived in Spain and traveled several times to France. I’ve seen all the big sites, so this trip will be mostly about eating… oh and marriage and stuff.
So I need your recommendations! I’m not a fancy restaurant person, but I love shopping for food when I travel. I plan to hit up bakeries and chocolate shops and track down some oysters and decent duck confit. I have some strong cheese opinions and want raw Loire Valley goat cheeses and Comté aged 2+ years. Taking that into account, where do you like to eat in Paris?

Meredith- can’t wait to read all about your trip upon your return! Here are a few of my favorites:
-Sadaharu Aoki’s patisseries. Aside from being delicious, his pastry are like works of art and have really different, intriguing flavor combos.
-Christian Constant’s chocolates live up to the hype.
- Le Grande Epicerie at Bon Marche blew my mind. It’s flat out the most beautiful food market I’ve ever seen.
-It may seem strange to recommend an American’s restaurant in Paris but Daniel Rose’s Spring was a highlight meal for me. I understand he has a wine bar/take away style place now, too.
-Picard, a frozen food store chain, is worth stopping in just to see the selections- only the French could elevate frozen food.
Bon Voyage!

Thanks Shelley! I will definitely try to check these out. I haven’t been to any of these places.
I have not been but ***may*** be going over Christmas (fingers crossed it all works out), and I am starting to research things as well… can’t wait to read about your trip when you come back! David Lebovitz has a blog entry with his list of favorite places, and he also has an app now with a guide to pastry shops all over the city. Might be worth checking out: http://www.davidlebovitz.com/paris/
Thanks! His recs are great!
Oh… have fun! Definitely eat some ice cream for me. They know what they are doing in Paris when it comes to frozen dairy. In fact, for the rest of the day I’ll be dreaming about that perfect scoop that I had back when I visited as a teenager. It was the most pure, angelic vanilla possible, topped with a crispy, tube shaped wafer than exploded upon nibbling. Sigh.
Hey Mary Helen! Unfortunately I didn’t have any ice cream! Maybe that means I should make some…
